The Globe of the guest

Sounds from recordings and edited archived material on guests and botany in an artist’s home in Struer, mounted with newly written poetic texts, two voices and new music composed with stone, metal, wood, parts of historical score and electronic sound.
Gæstens Globus is an audio installation of two different audio montages with a duration of 30 minutes and 5 minutes respectively, the works can be experienced on a collection of tree stumps in the garden of the Struer Museum and in the entrance way at the house of the pianist Olga Buchholtz and the writer Johannes Buchholtz. The sound installation can also be experienced online at gaestensglobus.dk
The stories are brought to life through music and poetry, with two different voices talking about the guest and the host as thematic figures in a botanical universe.
The work is based on Elsebeth Jørgensen’s photo documentation and research in Struer’s local history archive about the guests that frequented the Buchholtz’ house and the area’s flora. In the production of the work, Jørgensen involved a group of artisans and technicians to develop the final work. The writer René Jean Jensen contribute text, editing and assembly of manuscript parts. Composer Rasmus Zwicki mixed, produced and composed music for the final mix. Sound engineer Ask Kæreby has produced and mastered the vocal sound. Together actor Rikke Liljenberg and writer Julie Sten-Knudsen voiced the work. Copenhagen based design group Oncotype has produced the website for the work.

Elsebeth Jørgensen (1970) is a danish artist based in Copenhagen. Jørgensen works with sound, photography, video, text and installations in forms of montage, where many diverse elements are shaped into a new whole. In productions she often involves writers, composers, sound designers, historians, archivers, archeologists, biologists and botanists.
Central to Jørgensens artistic practice is a special interest in archives. Her art works of art are built around long term research and collection in historic archives, which she blends with her own photographic documentation and sound recording, film staging and fiction. In this way, her works question how we remember and organise notions of the past. The works are site specific, and presented in places like art institutions, historic institutions and urban space and landscapes. Often sound performances, book and web projects are included. For instance, Jørgensens piece Lyttehaven is created for visitors at Bispebjerg Hospital in Copenhagen. The work blends historic facts with poetry, voices, new music and field recordings from the outdoor environment of Bispebjerg, and may be experienced with a smartphone and headphones via lyttehaven.dk
